Responsible Sourcing Program for Vegetables
Program Vision
and Goals
The main goal of the Vegetables Program is to ensure respect of ethical standards, reduce the environmental impact of agricultural practices and enhance biodiversity within Nestlé's vegetables supply chain.
Transparency
& Compliance
Ensuring international ethical standards are respected across farms and processors; and improving transparency of the product origins to ensure they are traceable within the Nestlé supply chain.
Reduced
Carbon Footprint
Reducing the agricultural impact on the environment through sustainable agricultural practices that improve soil health, optimise water use, and minimise impacts from nutrients, agrochemicals, and waste.
Restored
Biodiversity
Supporting ecological infrastructure on and around the farmland to protect, restore and enhance biodiversity and ecosystem services.
Program Pillars
Traceability
Collecting information that allows Nestlé a better understanding of each supply chain's structure and composition. The main processors are identified and supported to maintain a reliable traceability system through which they can trace any vegetables gone to Nestlé back to the farm where they originally came from.
Compliance
This pillar serves two purposes: To 1) uncover potential gaps with respect to Nestlé’s ethical standards at farms and primary processors, through third parties’ assessments; and 2) to ensure that any discoveries will lead to improvement activities led by the primary processors. Once Nestlé's ethical requirements are met, the product is considered as "responsibly sourced."
Creating Shared Value (CSV)
Encouraging primary processors to support farms supplying to them to go beyond compliance, reduce the impact of their operations on the environment, and restore biodiversity. Participation in this pillar is voluntary—click below for details.
Where we work
The Traceability pillar of the Program has a global scope and the fieldwork with farmers and Nestlé suppliers is currently being implemented in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Ukraine and Serbia.
Nestlé-FGN-SAN Partnership
The implementing partners work closely with the in-country stakeholders and local organisations, to ensure the execution of the Programme. They conduct follow-up of actions with all participant suppliers, to ensure that the Programme is in line with their needs.
